Mark 4:35-41

35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

Intro:

This morning I’d like to Preach on the thought of:

“When the Storms of Life Come”.

There’s a lot said in The Bible about Storms.

You have Physical Storms: Hurricanes, Thunderstorms, Tornados, They say the Coronavirus in Invisible, but look all around us. For many in this World, this is the Biggest Storm, they’ll ever go through …

Then there’s The Storms of Your Life… They’re Emotional, they’re Spiritual, they’re Personal Storms.

- Things that come and Destroy, Upset and tear You down!

Storms move things around and change your life!

And we see how Hurricane Storms Destroy and move things around.

When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005 ago it moved ships a mile inland. Over 1800 people were killed..

When Sandy hit in October 2012 60-65 million people were in its path. In the United States it did an estimated 70 Billion Dollars in damages, 233 dead, many went missing. 90 mph winds recorded in Islip, NY and 36" of Snow was recorded in Richwood, WV.

According to USA Today, Hurricane Harvey the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history, estimated cost of $190 billion dollars.

Hurricane’s Maria and Jose have destroyed The Caribbean, Puerto Rico: Millions without Electricity, Gas, Oil, Food; some places you can’t even flush your toilet.

No Phone Service, No Cell Phone Service, No TV and Internet, I mean talk about Panic and Fear and Hunger…Hopelessness, Cabin Fever.

And that’s what happens a lot of times when a Storm hits in Your life.

And the way you react to these Storms; will affect you…

- Now, sometimes a Storm will move you in a good place,

- And sometimes a Storm will move you to the wrong place.

Now with Modern Technology we can:

- Track and monitor Storms,

- We can warn people in advance of an oncoming Storm and some people Heed the warning and Flee, while others Ignore the warning…

They don’t think it’s gonna be that bad,

They think their House will protect them,

They think they can “Ride it Out” and Survive…

*And the Storm Hits and they’re really not prepared…

Not enough food, water and no Electricity…

During Katrina the Levy broke forcing people on the roofs of their Homes with those “Help Us” signs!

** You see with God; He does warn us about Storms…

He might not give you the full details, but He lets you know in advance that a Storm is coming.

God has warned us about what’s going with Coronavirus. Governments and People are making preparations. It’s not perfect, but we’re all trying!

In life I’ve seen the Storm a coming, but I’m not sure how it’s gonna play out, what’s gonna happen, how’s it gonna end,

But I knew it was coming, me and My wife have been talking about Coronavirus since December and January…

And when You see a Storm a coming, you know there’s problems coming to.

- Storms never come at a good time, We just had a nice mild Winter and we’re getting ready for Spring, for Easter and Summer…

- You’re never ready, Hello Toilet Paper Crisis…

And if you’re a Christian you’re either:

1. In One,

2. Heading into one,

3. Or you’re getting out of one! Me? I’m getting out of one!

So if you’re not in a Storm right now, Enjoy it!

When God allows a Storm in Your Life: That Storm can help you become Better and not Bitter!

It helps you find refuge; it should bring you closer to God!

If you’re a weak Christian:

It’ll usually make you run away, or you’ll quit or have a defeatist attitude.

And I’m sure that if we had a time of Testimony, no doubt everyone here could tell of a Storm that’s occurred in your lives…

I want to show you this morning, when The Storms of Life comes, and how we’re to deal with them.

Verse 35 in Mark chapter 4 says:

35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

Now that’s the Journey we’re on and that’s a picture of our Spiritual Journey and that we’re heading to the other side,

This is not our side, we’re heading to the other side, we’re heading to Heaven, Amen!

Verses 36 & 37 says:

36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

That might be some of you… your Ship is full,

Has anybody ever been in Leaky Boat? Me and my Wife has! (Lake George)

And what happens in our Christian Life is that when a Storm hits:

- We start taking on Water, and we’re not bailing any Water out, and you let your Boat fill up and finally it sinks,

And you wondered: what just happened?

Verses 38-41 says:

38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

Just a few thoughts on these verses:

- You know some of Jesus's Disciples were Sailors and Fisherman,

- They knew the Water; they’ve been across the Lake,

- It wasn’t unusual for them to be in a Boat,

- It wasn’t even unusual for them to be in a Storm…

But what I think was unusual for them to start acting up and yelling. They apparently lost their “Sea Legs”, just like us Christians: we lose our Faith and we start complaining and acting up as well.

And this morning I’d like to point out a few Bible Helps when a Storm hits in your life.

1. You know when a Storm hits in your life, the first thing you should do is Seek God.

When things go wrong in my personal life,

When things go wrong in The Church,

When a Storm hits:

- I ask God, what’s going on here? Why is everything going crazy?

And I had better start a fixing the problem first, by Seeking God!

If you notice the Disciples we’re Panicking, Jesus was not.

You see when you get Saved:

- There are no accidents in your life,

- Things don’t happen by happenstance,

God has allowed that Storm to enter into your life, and when it does:

You shouldn’t Panic, You need to Seek God; you need to Seek His Guidance, You need not Panic, but trust Him!

You need to go through the Storm and repair the Damage God’s way!

And when God sends a Storm in Your life, it’s because He wants to:

- Make You better,

- He wants to condition You so He can use You,

And many of God’s people fail that Conditioning Test!

Remember young Mark? What happened to him?

The Storms of Life came in and he quit…

God wants to toughen You up!

This Coronavirus thing is a Great Opportunity for The Church to step up and be a Light to the Community, to be an Encouragement to the Community, to your Family and Friends!

We have The Message of Hope, We have the answer to their Storm!

We have Jesus, Jesus has us, we are gonna get through this Coronavirus Storm! And believe You Me, People are watching how The Church is gonna react and what The Church is gonna do…

And if you’re thinking about serving God or if you’re already doing something for Him, there will be Storms!

Look at verse 38:

38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

They awoke Jesus with a rebuke. “Master, carest thou not that we perish?” Looks like a little attitude is developing.

In Matthew’s Gospel, they say: “Lord save Us!”

Hey, God knows where you’re at in the Storm,

He knows you’re taking on water; God’s not ignoring you,

Just maybe He’s telling you to pick up the Bucket and start bailing out your ship, Amen!

God knows where you’re at in the Storm!

**God knows when you’re in trouble with your Money,

He tells you not to buy it; He reminds you that you don’t really need it,

And you’ll override God and buy that Gadget at 27.99% interest and get yourself in debt, and soon you’ll realize that you really didn’t need that thing in the first place anyway!

**God warns you about your Marriage and He knows you’re in trouble, and He warns you, and nudges you and helps you, and The Holy Ghost of God tells you not to do that and you do it anyway to satisfy self and you end up in the dog house.

As Hank Williams sang: “She changed the lock on front door, so move it on over, the mean old dog moving in…”

**God warns you not to take that new Job, Why?

Because it’ll take you away from Church, and you’ll say:

But the new Job pays more, yeah but you gotta work Sundays and Wednesday Nights, right? And you think God’s gonna Bless it and soon you’re out of Church and the next thing you know you’re in a Storm! Secondly about a Storm:

2. Notice there they were with The Lord during the Storm. Same as we are today; this journey that we’re traveling on, we’re traveling with The Lord Jesus.

If you’re Saved, He dwells within You, and if the Storm hits You today, guess who’s with You in that Storm? That’s right! The Lord Jesus Christ is!

He’s the fourth Man in the Fiery Furnace! He’s in the Lion’s Den of life, He’s in the Boat when the Storm hits!

You want smooth Sailing? Then get with The Lord!

When the Storm came, Jesus didn’t forsake them,

Now it’s ok to be concerned with your life. We need to take some inventory of our lives,

And when the Storms of Life occurs and slaps you around, and you’re taking on water, you’re being knocked off course and you’re heading to some rocky areas,

You shouldn’t panic, you need to realize that The Lord is with me, and I’m with Him, and we in this Storm together!

The Lord Jesus is the Captain of my Ship!

Hebrews 2:10 speaking of Jesus says:

10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

Jesus is the captain of my salvation, He’s the lover of my soul, He’s the protector of my soul, He’s my best friend, He’s my everything,

And whatever is going on here, I’ve got to realize that: The Lord’s guiding my life through the Storm and that also: God’s teaching me something, and I’ve got to learn what He’s trying to teach me.

You older people can relate to that because: You’ve lived a long life, you’ve made every mistake, you’ve done the stupid things,

And now you got some wisdom, and as the old saying goes:

“By the time you’ve learned everything, it’s time to retire.”

You young people, when an older person speaks, you should listen to them, why? You could learn some things, after a Hurricane hits I know there’s no Gas around, but don’t worry Jesus knows…

I know Food and Supplies are in shortage and expensive, and I look around the Fridge and the Cabinets, I’m gonna be eating a lot of Canned Soup and Frozen Dinners, but:

- Don’t worry, Jesus will feed us… He is The Bread of Life, Jesus is The Living Water!

God’s not panicking, He’s not having a Nervous Breakdown, He didn’t forget about you…

** What we need to do is trust and rely on God!

And If you trust God like you’re supposed to do, then let God handle the problems, let God pay the bills, let God put food in the Fridge…

But at the same time don’t rob God either.

And if you’re in a Storm, you know whose best to be with? That’s right Jesus!

3. The third thing we see about Storms is that: Being with The Lord didn’t guarantee a safe Journey.

Some may be thinking: “When I wasn’t saved, I didn’t have that many Storms.” Welcome to The Club!

And some of might be saying: “When a Storm hits, I do seek The Lord! I am in His presence, I can feel it.” – That’s good!

But that does not guarantee you Peace, Why? Because God allows The Storms of Life to hit us here on Earth.

God gives us His inner Peace here on Earth to get through a Storm, but remember that our True Eternal Peace is on the other side! Our Peace is heaven!

- Our peace is when we leave here,

- Our Benefits is on the other side, our Treasures, our Home, our Eternity, our Crowns are a waiting for us on the other side in Heaven, Amen!

But what’s being Preached on TV and in many Pulpits is that once you get Saved, all your troubles are gone… and that’s a lie!

Does it not say in 2 Timothy 3:12

12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

When Paul got saved on the road to Damascus, what did Jesus show Paul? Jesus showed Paul that he will suffer for Jesus's namesake!

Oh what a first day of Salvation for Paul!

Yeah Paul, they’re gonna beat you, stone you, put you in jail, you’ll die a Martyr’s death and you’ll be shipwreck because of a Storm…

And thank God He doesn’t tell us of our future sufferings the first day like he told Paul, be we probably couldn’t handle it.

Another thing I want to show you, look at verse 38 & 39:

38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

4. Fourthly, when the Storms come, Jesus doesn’t leave.

- Usually when the Storm hits, we leave Him, but Jesus never leaves us!

When the Storm hits, Jesus doesn’t disappear or fly away.

When the Storm of Sin hit Adam and Eve in the Garden, what’d they do? They ran and hid themselves,

And God had to go find them.

God says in: Deuteronomy 31:6

6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Jesus says in: Matthew 28:20: “and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Jesus also said: “Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

When the Storms of life come we ought to rest in the knowledge that God’s got things under control, Amen!

5. And finally, when the Storm hits, don’t be afraid, have some Faith!

Look at verses 40 & 41:

40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

Psalm 23:4 says:

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

** No matter how bad the Storm is, no matter how hard it hits,

Remember; If you’re a Borned-Again Christian, Jesus is right there with you guaranteed!

His Love for You is unconditional, it’s not based on:

- What you do, how much you give, how much you serve, how much Bible you know,

The Bible says in Romans 5:8

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

** And if God Loved us before when were lost, don’t you think He Loves us now?

We’re in a Storm Now! Remember:

1.Seek God!

2.Remember: We’re in the Storm with The Lord Jesus.

3.Don’t forget: our Peace is on the other side!

And when that Storm slams you,

4.Don’t run away from God, He’ll never leave you!

And when you’re in the Storm,

5.Don’t be afraid, have some Faith, Trust in Jesus, He’ll get you through the Storms of Life!

Let’s Pray…
